Kindle Vella Countdown

My first Kindle Vella story should release on 6/27/2022! I’m so excited to add to this platform. I started this story a while ago. Below is the original rough draft for Kiss Me Not! The basic premise of the story won’t change. Maishelle is shot in the butt by Cupid. After she tells him off about his heartbreaker son Devlin. Now she has 7 days to find her “true love” and reverse the curse.

Kiss Me Not!

“It’s not funny!”  Maishelle tapped her foot and rolled her eyes while Rayne’s shoulders heaved with raucous laughter. 

“Actually,” Rayne wiped tears away from the corners of her hazel-brown eyes. “It is very funny.  C’mon if it were anybody else, we would be laughing about this together.”  

“Rayne!  He shot me in the butt.  In my freakin’ butt.” Rayne bit her lip and her glistened. But she balled her fists and held any more giggles. “That arrow hurt!  Like, I can barely sit down.  It even left a mark in the shape of...” 

Rayne held up her palm. “Don’t tell me, nope don’t tell me.” She scrunched her eyes shut.  “Let me imagine it.”  Her impish grin, and gentle teasing, usually brightened Maishelle’s day but today… “Sorry, I got nothing. In the shape of what?” 

“A heart.  A big, freakin-a heart outlined with little lacy curly-ques.  The shape is purple and blue if you can stop laughing long enough to care!”  Rayne bit down harder on her lip which twitched and trembled under the strain. “Did I mention that it hurt?” 

“Okay, let me get this straight,” Rayne wiped her hand over her face and took a deep breath, again.  “You were telling Cupid off about his son.”  Maishelle nodded. “And when you walked away, you felt a sharp pain.”  Another deep racking breath before continued. “A little prick in your behind. And when you checked later it was a giant heart shaped bruise?” 

“With a lacy outline, don’t forget that part.” 

“And this means?” 

“It means what it always means when Cupid shoots his arrow at someone.  Which contrary to popular fiction is usually not in the butt and it is never ever supposed to hurt!” 

“…and this means that somewhere out there your true love is waiting, possibly even now searching for you.  The most unromantic woman in the world.” 

“Hey,” Maischelle objected.  “I’m not unromantic!!!  Didn’t we used to swap those romance novels in high school?” 

“Yes, we did and maybe we read too many.  Because sometime between the seventeen-year-old who swapped the latest romance novel and the twenty-seven-year-old dreams of Mr. Right just got trampled on.” 

“Yeah well, too many Mr. Wrongs can do that to a girl.” 

“C’mon Shelly this is me you’re talking too.  Were they really all Mr. Wrongs or do you just have such an incredibly high bar that no mere man can possibly make it over it.” 

“You’re a fine one to talk, you’re as single as I am an equally selective.” 

“But not because I have given up on finding Mr. Right.  I am single because I will only accept Mr. Right.  No substitutes!”  She shook her head as she pondered her friend's dilemma.  “Now that I think about it, would it really be so bad.  Think about it like this Shells, you now have a real true love.  You don’t have to go looking or wait around.  Once the arrow has been shot, fate will bring the two of you together and it will be smooth sailing.  True love and happiness for the rest of your blissful lives. “   

“Yeah well, all that waiting and worrying is over for you now.  Cupid has decided to help you in your search…” 

“I wasn’t searching!!!” 

“Doesn’t matter.”  Rayne smiled in a way that should have been reassuring.  “All you have to do now is just sit around and wait.  I’m sure any minute now, Mr. Right will come crashing through the door.”
